高雄氣爆意外
At least 24 people have been killed and 271 others injured when several underground gas explosions ripped through Taiwan's second-largest city overnight, hurling concrete through the air and blasting long trenches in the streets.
在這座台灣第二大城市，地下瓦斯管線的爆炸一夜之間造成至少有二十四人死亡，兩百七十一人受傷。因爆炸而飛出的水泥塊在街道上造成一道深溝。

Food safety scandal
食安風暴
A series of food safety incidents involving the adulteration of cooking oil with recycled waste oil and animal feed oil that was discovered in September. At least 1,256 businesses were affected.
自九月開始台灣爆發了一連串的食物安全事件，業者涉及將食用油摻雜回收油以及飼料油，此事影響至少一千兩百件相關企業。
Sunflower Student Movement
太陽花運動
A protest movement driven by a coalition of students and civic groups between March 18 and April 10. The activists protested the passing of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA) at the legislature without clause-by-clause review. The movement marked the first time that the legislature has been occupied by citizens in the history of Taiwan.
三月十八號至四月十號之間，學生聯盟和公民團體發起的抗議活動。抗議立法院在未經逐條審查的狀況下便通過了服務貿易協定。這場抗議活動是台灣歷史上第一次有人民佔領立法院。
Jiangzicui metro attack
江子翠捷運攻擊事件
A 21-year-old student Cheng Chieh (鄭捷) killed four people and injured 22 in a random killing spree on a train of the Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system’s Bannan Line. It was the first deadly attack on an MRT system in Taiwan.
一位二十一歲的學生鄭捷在台北捷運板南線展開一場隨機的瘋狂殺戮，造成四個人死亡，二十二人受傷。這是台灣捷運史上第一次發生這樣的致命攻擊事件。
Missing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
馬來西亞航空370號航班失蹤事件
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing lost contact with air control and went missing more than an hour after it took off in the early hours of Saturday, March 8. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, was carrying 12 Malaysian crew members and 227 passengers from 15 nations.
三月八號清晨，馬來西亞航空370號自吉隆坡飛往北京的航班在起飛一小時後便失去聯絡，這架波音777-200ER型飛機載有十二名馬來西亞籍機組員以及兩百二十七名來自十五個不同國家的乘客。
Ebola Outbreak in West Africa
伊波拉病毒在西非爆發疫情
The 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa. There were a small number of cases reported in Nigeria and a single case reported in Senegal; however, these cases are considered to be contained, with no further spread in these countries.
2014年的伊波拉疫情是歷史上最大規模的一次，影響了西非許多國家。奈及利亞及塞內加爾都有傳出零星疫情，但這些狀況被認為在控制範圍內，並沒有進一步的擴散。

The Chinese government issued a ruling limiting who can stand as a candidate in the 2017 city elections, which hasn't gone down well with pro-democracy activists. The peaceful protesters occupying the streets of Hong Kong for more than two months have been surprisingly persistent in their pursuit of genuine universal suffrage.
中國政府對於2017年的大選做出了限制候選人身分的裁決，這讓民運人士感到無法接受。示威者和平地佔據了香港的主要街道長達兩個月以上，在追求真正普選的訴求中展現了驚人的執著。
Rosetta's Philae probe lands on comet
羅賽塔號的菲萊探測器降落彗星
Rosetta is a spacecraft on a 10-year mission to catch a comet and land a probe on it. Launched in 2004, the spacecraft arrived at its target, Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, on Aug. 6, 2014. The lander, named Philae, made contact on Nov. 12, 2014, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit a comet.
羅賽塔探測船在執行了十年的任務之後終於在八月六號時追上67P/楚留莫夫－格拉希門克彗星上並成功附著了一個探測器。探測器的名字叫做菲萊，在十二月十二日和地球取得聯繫，成為意圖會合彗星而進入其軌道的第一個太空飛行器。
