Alegre Guitar Factory
For a peek at a guitar factory, ask a tricycle driver to take you to Alegre Guitar Factory in Abuno, where guitars are handmade on site and range from the P2500 decoration ‘cheapie’ to the P70,000 ‘export quality’. The most expensive model is made from exquisite black ebony imported from Madagascar. Beautiful native mandolins, some carved from a single piece of wood and inlaid with polished abalone shell, go from anywhere between P4000 and P14,000. Kids will love the cutesy cocoleles from around P1800 made from, you guessed it, coconut shells.
